- Go to the Beach
Cancun has many beautiful beaches to see. The beaches in Mexico are public, that means you don’t have to pay, to use them. Sometimes it can be difficult to access the beach, because you can only do it through a hotel (which is private). Some of the best public beaches in Cancun are Playa Delfines, Playa Tortuga, Playa Linda, Playa Langosta and Playa Gaviota Azul.
- Take a walk through downtown Cancun
Don’t miss a walk through the park Parque de las Palapas, the main square of the city. If you want to experience something beyond the bars and clubs of the Hotel Zone, in the Parque de las Palapas you will find a place where you can walk streets with artists design, eat typical Mexican food at a food fair, watch children play and run around, and enjoy free shows that are presented almost every weekend. On weeknights and weekends, live music is played in this town square. Enjoy snacks from small street shops while relaxing.
- The Cancun Maya Museum
The Mayan Museum of Cancun, houses an extensive collection of Mayan artifacts. You will have the opportunity to see hundreds of pieces of important archaeological sites in the area, such as sculptures, tools, ceramics, etc. The entrance includes access to the ruins of San Miguelito that are located in the extensive property of the museum. The site is made up of about 40 structures. If you want to know the Mayan Museum of Cancun it is located at Kilometer 17.5 of the Hotel Zone of Cancun. The entry for the museum is $57 pesos.
- Local ruins
This place is also well known for the numerous lizards that inhabit the area. On the north of Cancun there are located the El Meco Ruins, they are composed of 14 structures. The place is not well known, so it is likely that you will not find many people, and besides that you have the advantage that the cost of entry is only about $50 pesos.
- Mercado 28
Mercado 28 is a large outdoor market in downtown Cancun, with many things to see, buy and eat. The market occupies almost a complete block, and in it you can find numerous souvenir shops, jewelers and local crafts. There are also several restaurants that serve fast food at very good prices. On one side of Mercado 28 there is one of the first squares of the city, Plaza Bonita. The Mexican charm of its mosaics and its Mexican pink walls will make you want to take hundreds of photos.
- Go snorkeling
The crystal clear waters of Cancun make it an ideal destination for snorkeling, there is much to see under the majestic Caribbean Sea.
- The Island Shopping Village
This place is full of shops, boutiques, restaurants and everything you want to go for shopping. The shopping center is located in the hotel zone of Cancun.
- Visit the Nichupté Lagoon
Located also in the Hotel Zone of Cancun, at kilometer 4.5. The Nichupté Lagoon is a system of lagoons that is connected with the Caribbean Sea through two channels. The entrance to the lagoon is in the ‘Garden of Art’, there are free kiosks where you can buy snacks and drinks, relax in a hammock or make a ‘Pic-Nic’ day with friends or family. It is not recommended to swim in the lagoon because crocodiles have been seen there, specially during night time.
- Swimming in the Nizuc River
If you want to go fishing or swimming, the Nizuc River is perfect for getting rid of every thoughts you like to forget. In this place it is common to find only a few people and a lot of space to enjoy for yourself. The turquoise color of its waters is charmingly refreshing and peaceful compared to most places that are part of this region. Walking through this area is one of the best things to do in Cancun, without spending almost anything.
- Walk along in Avenida Tulum
It will not cost you anything to take a walk on the main street of downtown Cancun. The wide avenue has pedestrian paths on both sides, and is full of shops, small markets, bars and restaurants, what makes it an ideal place to explore Cancun.
